Nathan and I made it back home safe and sound all luggage in tow. Just trying to get over the jet lag now.
There was a bit of chaos going on for our last day in Thailand. We thought that things in Bangkok had settled down a bit but upon arriving at the train station and trying to find a way to the Swiss Hotel, we realized more was going on. When we asked a tuk tuk driver to bring us to the hotel, he said "no pow pow" and left us. Frustrated and Nathan getting angrier, we needed to find a way. Finally, a taxi driver agreed to drive us there. On our way he called the hotel and we found out that the road leading to the hotel was closed off. We decided to head to the Swiss Hotel's sister hotel and arranged to have our bags brought over.
After settling into the hotel, we put on the news to find out what was going on and learned that the army was moving in to disperse the red shirts. The leader of the Red Shirts had turned himself in and all was supposed to be settling down but instead protesters began lighting fires around Bangkok. From our hotel room, we could see the smoke. That night, a curfew of 8pm was placed in Bangkok.
Luckily, around our hotel had a decent shopping and food area so we were able to get some last minute shopping in and have pad thai for our last meal before our curfew of 8pm till 6am the next morning.
Now, we are back in Canada..back to reality....unemployed and homeless really.
Photos to come....!!!
